Mélanie Duchaussoy works mainly with stoneware, fired at high temperatures, which allows her to develop dense and solid sculptural pieces, sometimes of large dimensions. This stoneware base gives her the freedom to push the modelling process further: assertive volumes, tense lines, massive or slender silhouettes that fully occupy the space.
Glazing plays an essential role in her approach: she uses glazes that emphasise the reliefs, flow over the edges and cling to the roughness of the clay. The surface becomes a veritable skin, worked by contrasts in shine, nuances of colour and firing accidents that contribute to the lively character of the forms.
