Principle of monotype
This is a unique print obtained from an image created on a smooth, non-porous plate (glass, metal, Plexiglas, acrylic, etc.). Typographic ink, intaglio ink, oil paint, gouache or acrylic paint is applied to the plate, then the image is transferred to the paper by pressure (press or manual pressure).
A monotype on Hahnemühle paper is produced in the same way as any monotype, but taking advantage of the qualities of this high-quality, acid-free, 300 gsm fine art paper.
The monotype by Mélanie Duchaussoy, is a hidden writing.
It curves, takes shape. Born from an imprint, it lies down on the bed of the press. Her series reveal snippets of stories and memories. A narrative hook made up of small facts, pebbles transformed into rough figurines.
Drawing allows for this, a description that goes beyond the limits of the visible: it “writes” Time.
