In his paintings, Étienne Gros begins by gluing paper to the canvas (marouflage), which he then covers with bright colours such as red, blue and orange. These flat areas are polished and sanded before human forms emerge.
The bodies depicted in his works are often fragmented, faceless, and evoke a gentle yet powerful sensuality. The colour acts like a photographic filter, highlighting certain parts of the body.
