My career path is that of an eye trained in the world of luxury, nourished by the rigour of the great fashion houses, then reoriented towards the intimate and vibrant territory of art.
For twenty years, I worked at the heart of legendary fashion houses – Christian Dior, Karl Lagerfeld, Charles Jourdan. In the silent workshops and under the relentless glare of the catwalk lights, nothing was left to chance. Excellence was not an option, but a daily inspiration.
This school of precision, sometimes ruthless, taught me to listen to the material, to recognise the accuracy of a line, to perceive beauty in its most subtle nuances. The eye is forged as an essential tool: an attentive instrument, capable of detecting what escapes simple observation. The way a drape falls, a colour breathes or a shape finds its balance… these codes of couture are intimately linked to those of art.
This requirement has remained mine: an internal filter that guides my choices today, without ever betraying me.
While fashion celebrates the moment, contemporary art offers a depth that has always attracted me. For years, I secretly explored galleries, searching for that almost physical encounter with a work or an artist. This intimate dialogue, initially personal, gradually became a vocation.
This passion needed a space, a place where it could be fully expressed. That is how my first gallery came into being.
Seventeen years ago, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence became the first step in my professional career in the art world. Opening a gallery was not just about displaying works of art: it was about creating a place, a breathing space, an atmosphere where each piece could exist and reveal its power.
A few years later, a new adventure began in the heart of the Luberon: Galerie 22, run for over a decade in collaboration with Jane Dreyer. This inspiring, mineral-rich region shaped our outlook. We championed exceptional artists, built a strong curatorial identity, and took our vision to European art fairs.
These years of encounters, dialogues and meticulous curation have cemented what today constitutes Art Mourier’s reputation: an authentic and lasting relationship with artists and collectors alike.
The closure of Galerie 22 did not mark a renunciation, but a transformation. Digital technology has established itself not as a break with the past, but as an obvious choice: the possibility of opening the gallery to the whole world, without losing the intimacy that defines my approach.
