Surface texture plays a central role in her work. Mélanie Duchaussoy favours subtle, mineral-like glazes—sometimes matt, sometimes satin-finished—which reveal the natural texture of the clay. The shades—subtle whites, stone grey, ash-like or earthy tones—interact subtly with the light and enhance the sculptural quality of her pieces.
The firing process lies at the heart of her artistic approach. Fire acts as an unpredictable partner, capable of transforming form and surface, and introducing an element of deliberate randomness. This relationship with fire gives each work a unique character, making every ceramic piece singular.
