Two blocks brush against one another without touching. Between them lies a narrow fissure — a space of tension, dialogue and breathing room.
The surfaces tell a geological story: concentric striations coil in tight layers, evoking the cross-section of a tree trunk or the curves of a landscape. Yet it is all an illusion of matter: Jean-François Auber transforms kraft paper into a substance with the appearance and solidity of wood, challenging our perception of reality.
One of the forms is stable, solid. The other, cut out, seems to be in motion. Together, they form a suspended face-to-face encounter — two presences seeking each other without merging.
Horizontal and poised, this sculpture speaks to the power of connection as much as that of separation.
