Mélanie Duchaussoy works primarily with stoneware, fired at high temperatures, which allows her to create dense, solid sculptural pieces, sometimes on a large scale. This stoneware base gives her the freedom to push the boundaries of modelling: bold volumes, taut lines, and massive or slender silhouettes that fully occupy the space.
Glazing plays a key role in her approach: she uses glazes that emphasise the reliefs, run down the edges and cling to the roughness of the clay. The surface becomes a true skin, shaped by contrasts in lustre, nuances of colour and the irregularities of the firing process, all of which contribute to the living character of the forms.
