A monotype is a hidden text.
It curves and takes shape. Born from an imprint, it lies upon the bed of the press.
My series reveal fragments of stories and memories. A narrative thread woven from small facts, pebbles transformed into rough figurines.
Drawing allows for this: a description that transcends the limits of the visible; it ‘writes’ Time.
My figures are created with an economy of gesture, aiming to bring out the essence of the form without concern for setting or perspective. All that matters to me is the sense of a story that must be told. The works, through their expressions, speak to us of a memory; there is a sense of disappearance, a feeling of alteration. Beauty is not perfect but ‘nibbled away at’; it limps slightly and, with its clattering, reminds us of an inner hourglass.
