The principle of the monotype
This is a unique print produced from an image created on a smooth, non-porous plate (glass, metal, Plexiglas, etc.).
Typographic ink, intaglio ink, oil paint, gouache or acrylic is applied to the plate, and the image is then transferred to the paper by pressure (using a press or by hand).
A monotype on Hahnemühle paper is produced in the same way as any monotype, but takes advantage of the qualities of this high-quality, acid-free fine art paper, 300 gsm.
Mélanie Duchaussoy’s monotype, is a hidden text.
It curves and takes shape. Born from an imprint, it lies on the bed of the press. Her series reveal snippets of stories and memories. A narrative hook made up of small facts, pebbles transformed into rough figurines.
Drawing allows for this, a description that transcends the limits of the visible: it ‘writes’ Time.
